Not only on my side, but on most UX people I know. The reason I can't really get anything out is because of the proliferation of:
a) metro style
b) osx style
c) extreme skeuomorphism in general
d) the muted colors used
e) "minimalism" with noise, brushing, stitching, etc...
f) the overuse of drop shadows and/or debossing text
g) ribbons in general
Everything that comes out seems to trite nowadays. Can anybody suggest anything different?
3d themes
As for Metro, it's never impressed me. As an 11-year old I imagined making a TrueTransparency theme pretty much identical to it on my own; Metro is not creative or "beautiful, fast and fluid" to me, just a variation on the same old, same old.
Everything else is just because it has the "wow so polished" effect and people figure they'll do well to just please the crowd. The Ribbon is because it's difficult to find any other way to circumvent the same old toolbars and menus we've been using for decades.
Just my two cents.
